The Right Fit is a multi-partner service designed to address the crisis in wheelchair accessible housing by matching affordable, accessible homes and independent living supports with people who need them in the Vancouver region of British Columbia.

Launched in 2017, the Right Fit serves as a centre for excellence and knowledge hub that combines expertise with an understanding that accessibility for people with disabilities requires a holistic approach involving not only design but also all the barriers that impede full inclusion.

The Right Fit’s goals are as follows:

  • Conserve scarce wheelchair accessible housing for those who need it;
  • Promote a steady future supply;
  • Ensure that wheelchair users have timely access to the personal supports and assistive technology they need to successfully occupy available housing.

The Right Fit has implemented a peer-led navigation model to place full-time indoor wheelchair users in available units that are suitable to their needs.

Our team also works closely with housing providers to locate and verify accessible housing units. We encourage housing providers to use the Right Fit Accessibility Checklist as a tool for verifying accessibility and to register accessible housing.
